1. Discernment is now a security control. In a world of synthetic content and engineered authenticity, leaders must rely on deeper cues: coherence, motive, alignment, and pattern recognition
2. Loneliness and overload increase susceptibility. People who feel isolated or overwhelmed are more likely to trust automated prompts and less likely to question them
3. Efficiency can quietly erode judgment. When systems remove friction, they also remove reflection. Convenience becomes a risk vector.
4. Identity becomes fragile when relationships are mediated. If algorithms shape who you see and what you believe, you become easier to influence and easier to steer.
What Boards Should Be Asking Right Now
· Are our systems supporting human judgment, or replacing it
· Where are we relying on engineered trust instead of earned trust
· How are psychological vulnerabilities being exploited in our workforce
· Do we have oversight for synthetic content and automated decision-making
